To raise awareness of the Thames Valley Hospice
In June I applied to the Guinness Book of Records on behalf of the
Hospice to register an attempt to beat an existing record associated
with flower bulbs. The one we applied for was the highest number of
people planting bulbs simultaneously on one site. We decided to try to
get 700 people which would beat the existing record by over 50 people.
I have finally had confirmation that the record attempt can go ahead.
It will take place at the Grovefield House Hotel in Burnham on the
morning of Sunday 9th October in the afternoon. It should take no more than an
hour and a half to two hours. I hope that by getting all the local
press along it will raise awareness of the charity and their 25th
anniversary in 2012. In fact I have since discovered that it is a
requirement of the attempt that we have the media there.
When I applied I thought each person had to plant one bulb but when I
got the e-mail confirmation saying that our application had been
accepted they stipulated that it must be five bulbs.
So now our application has been accepted we have the mammoth task of
recruiting willing volunteers to take part. Under the strict guidelines
laid down I have to produce all kinds of evidence so I have started a
register of people who will be attending. If you would like to help I
would love to hear from you. The only information I will need is your
name and a telephone number. If you have any family or friends who can
help I would love to hear from them too. The only thing I would ask is
that if you have a trowel you let me know and bring it along on the day.
The hotel has kindly said that we can dig a flower bed along their
perimeter fence to plant the bulbs in. It is currently grass so we have
to draw up a plan of the proposed bed and present it to the hotel. Then
I will need to find a team of people who will help to dig it out ready.
If anyone would be interested in helping with this task I would love to
hear from you.
Guinness Records have stipulated that we need an official timekeeper on
the day with a stop watch. If there is anyone who has experience in
this area and would be willing to help please contact me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this rather long note. I really
appreciate it.
